HITCHIN 10

OVERVIEW

Welcome to The Hitchin 10km, which also incorporates the Herts County Senior Championships. This race is unique because it is the only 10km in the known region that starts and finishes in a market square, giving this race a unique feel in that you are running amongst a historic setting with a cosmopolitan feel to it.

The route itself is a beautiful one. It starts right in the town centre, with the first kilometre (the north loop) being on closed roads that go anti-clockwise around town. You then head out towards the Gosmore and Charlton villages to complete a clockwise south loop, before heading back into Hitchin. You complete another 1km loop that you started on, and then that all famous Town Centre finish.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The route itself is a beautiful one. It starts right in the town centre, with the first kilometer (the north loop) being on closed roads that go anti-clockwise around town. You then head out towards the Gosmore and Charlton villages to complete a clockwise south loop, before heading back into Hitchin. You complete another 1km loop that you started on, and then that all famous Town Centre finish.

The town centre roads and roads leading out to Charlton are all closed, but once in the countryside these roads are not closed, but they are not busy and they are popular to use.

The course profile is classified as flat and it has one small climb.

REGISTRATION

You can pick up your race number on two of the following days:

Please note there is NO on-site parking, but there is a car park across the road (St. Mary’s car

park). It is a paid and display car park, but there are other places to park for free nearby if you know

the area well. When you enter the premises, please walk up the main driveway of the facility, then

behind the main showroom you will see open doors, go in them and up the stairs to your right-hand

side. It will be easier to do than this sounds!

You can collect your race number/chip timing bib and your event t-shirt (if you signed up to that option

when you entered). Please note we will have no spare tops to sell. They are ordered exactly to who has

ordered one.

What3Words App location for TCA: alarm.yards.spray

NB: You CAN pick up race packs for family and friends, but you must tell us in advance and get permission

to do so. An email confirmation/text etc from them to show they have given consent will be needed.

RULES

The minimum age of race entry is 15 years old on race day itself.  There is a junior race (golden mile) for 5-14 years olds.

YOU MUST LISTEN TO MARSHALS AT ALL TIMES AS THIS RACE IS NOT TRAFFIC FREE. THERE ARE SOME ROAD CROSSINGS BUT MARSHALS WILL BE AT ALL OF THESE POINTS TO ENSURE THAT THEY KEEP YOU AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE. IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT, LET TRAFFIC GO FIRST BEFORE CONTINUING THE RACE.

There will be scorers who mark down the number of each runner as they complete both laps and a video will be in operation for any discrepancies too.

No music players are permitted at all due to the nature of the race involving public highways and road crossings.

In the event of wet conditions, you must run around the corners carefully and listen to the marshals as the surface in places could be slippery and it is not worth risking an injury for the sake of a fast time or placing. Stay safe!

In the event of extreme weather, the race can be postponed to another day.

Entries cannot be transferred, and are non-refundable.

PRIZES

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place runners in both male and female categories.

There will also be age group prize winnings also.

All runners will get a medal for running!
